Department of Sociology

Historical Background

Department of Sociology was established in 1974 along with the commencement of this college. Initially department has only Undergraduate course further in 1978 Post Graduate course was started and has evolved over the years as one of the important centers of Sociology teaching and research in state and nation as well. Department is striving hard to develop this as a national and international level sociological study center. Inculcating Contemporary development in sociological field while emphasizing the themes and topics of subject among students has been the core concern of department. Basic and applied dimensions of the subject have been covered extensively while teaching, as knowledge without wisdom is worthless.

Presently total sanctioned teaching post is four and all are occupied as on 30th Dec 2021. Among them two are Associate professor and two are Assistant Professor.

Aims and Objectives

Sociology is a subject of emotion, compassion, sympathy and synthesis of society and its members. Keeping all these in mind the most necessary part is to promote objectivity and scientific nature of the subject. This department has been involved in various research projects to achieve maximum objectivity in subject.

Developing innovative learning environments is necessary today, as traditional educational approaches will not be able to deliver 21stCentury competencies for learners. Aims and objectives of the department is to meet 21st century challenges is as follows:

  • To promote sociology as a scientific study of society.
  • To teach students the concepts, theories and methods of sociological study.
  • To train students to understand and to interpret objectively the role of social processes, social institutions, social interactions in their lives.
  • To promote teaching and learning environment in campus and department.
  • To provide the knowledge and skills to students so that they are recognized globally as well as become socially responsible.
  • To provide facilities, infrastructure and resources to conduct meaningful research.
  • To have regional consideration with regards to local needs relevance, strength, limitations and the community services.
  • To strengthen the faculty members and students interactions in department and campus.

Dr. Hemlata Saini (MA , MPhil, Phd., UGC NET), Associate Professor

She is holding more than twenty, research papers, journals and chapters in edited books.

She has done one major and one minor project funded by ICSSR and UGC New Delhi respectively.

She participated and presented more than fifty papers in various national and international seminar and conferences.

She has published two books one as sole author and another one as a co-author.

Dr. Ravinder Kumar Saini (M.A., M.Phil., Ph.d., UGC-NET, SET Rajasthan), Associate Professor

He is holding more than twenty, research papers, journals and chapters in edited books.

He has done one major and one minor project as a co-investigator funded by ICSSR and UGC New Delhi respectively.

He participated and presented more than fifty papers in various national and international seminar and conferences.

He has published two books one as sole author and another one as a co-author.

Anchalesh Kumar (MA, Phd., UGC-NET) Assistant Professor

He is holding thirty, research papers, journals and chapters in edited books.

He has done two major projects funded by ICSSR New Delhi.

He participated and presented more than fifty papers in various national and international seminar and conferences.

He has published three books one as sole author.
